# Set up Loami for this project This workflow is intended for a user who pasted the Loami setup prompt into their coding agent. Install a project-local skill and a durable document preference. The preference applies to future document work in this project. ## Skill Download https://loami.dev/downloads/loam-skill.zip. The archive contains loam-html/SKILL.md. Read that file, then place the loam-html folder under the appropriate project directory: - Claude Code: .claude/skills/loam-html/SKILL.md - Codex: .agents/skills/loam-html/SKILL.md Preserve other skills and existing unrelated configuration. Reuse an existing installation of this skill instead of creating duplicates. If both agents are explicitly requested, install for both; otherwise use the current agent. No package manager, API key, or shell installer is required. ## Remember the document preference Read the project's existing instructions. For Claude Code, append or update a concise Loami section in the project's CLAUDE.md. For Codex, append or update it in the effective project AGENTS.md; if an AGENTS.override.md already takes precedence, merge the preference into that effective instruction file instead. Preserve all unrelated rules. Do not change global instructions for this project-scoped setup. Suggested section: ## Documents with Loami For new notes, reports, explainers, and dashboards in this project, default to a standalone Loami HTML document. Read the installed loam-html skill and https://loami.dev/llms.txt before authoring. Use the versioned import documented there, default to dark, use the loam-document / loam-pages shell, place explanation and evidence side by side in loam-grid, keep source readable, and offer offline HTML export. Use tabs for data and methodology instead of long spacious pages. Label sample data. Explicit requests for another format take precedence, and edits to existing artifacts preserve their format unless the user asks for conversion. ## Verify Confirm the skill exists at the selected path and its frontmatter is intact. Confirm the preference was merged once, with prior instructions preserved. Use the current reference to check the import and APIs. Report the files changed. If the agent must reload instructions or skills, tell the user to start a fresh session in this project. Installation is complete only after the actual files are written; do not describe reading this page as installation. ## Optional MCP The public Streamable HTTP endpoint is https://loami.dev/mcp. The skill and reference work without MCP. A user who wants the Claude Code connection can run: claude mcp add --transport http --scope project loami https://loami.dev/mcp Other agents should use their documented project MCP configuration. Preserve existing connections. ## References Codex skill discovery: https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/build-skills Codex project instructions: https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/agent-configuration/agents-md Claude Code skill discovery: https://code.claude.com/docs/en/skills ## Portable manual alternative Set up Loami in this project so future notes, reports, explainers, and dashboards use it by default. Read https://loami.dev/install.txt and https://loami.dev/llms.txt. Install the published Loami skill for the agent I am using, then add the document preference to CLAUDE.md for Claude Code or AGENTS.md for Codex. Preserve existing instructions and keep the setup scoped to this project. Default new documents to compact, dark Loami HTML using viewport-based sections, a versioned import, and offline export. Honor explicit requests for other formats and preserve the format of existing files. Verify the skill and instructions are in place, and tell me whether I need a fresh session to load them.
